MISSION STATEMENT
Leading domestic violence prevention through the empowerment of individuals and the community by providing advocacy, education and support services.
PHILOSOPHY OF SERVICE:
The Women’s Resource Center of Newport and Bristol Counties provides safety, advocacy, support, information, referral and follow-up services to victims of domestic violence or sexual assault or persons at risk for domestic violence. We do this through comprehensive advocacy, support and prevention activities that empower victims, families, and those at risk for family violence to reach goal- oriented outcomes. These outcomes are safety, emotional stability to work on practical goals, and the practical supports to build self-sufficient lives for themselves and their children. These are the key outcomes upon which the work of Women’s Resource Center of Newport and Bristol Counties advocates will be measured.
SPECIFIC DUTIES:
- Maintain confidentiality of residents and safe home location with caution.
- Fill in hours when regular staff not able to come in for their shift
- Knowledge of individual and family dynamics of domestic and sexual abuse
- Provide programs, activities, support and advocacy to the children.
- Work as a team member with other staff and volunteers.
- Serve as a role model while maintaining professional boundaries in relationships with residents.
- Answer the 24 hour hotline
- Constant contact and interaction with the women & children..
- Monitor and enforce curfew schedule..
- Maintain the staff areas clean
- Organize items in their designated area. Toiletries, food pantry, clothing, house supplies.
- Coordinate and facilitate weekend activities for shelter clients (adults and children).
- Monitor and mediate problems and conflicts that may arise in the resident setting.
- Perform phone shelter screenings, intakes, and resident exits.
- Give warnings and write ups to residents when necessary.
- Provide residents with resources, referrals, crisis intervention and support.
- Uphold shelter policies, rules and enforce all safety regulations.
- Maintain communication with other staff through the communication log, conversations before and after shift change.
- Attend monthly meetings.
- Rooms are turned over the same day a family exits.
- Ensure safe home chores are completed by residents nightly.
- Enforce all safe home polices & regulations.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Have the ability to maintain the self- help philosophy and to relate well with women and children. Be able to work effectively with a culturally diverse population. Must have the capability to remain calm and make good decisions when confronted with emergencies and crisis by using conflict resolutions and mediating skills. Must have the willingness to enforce rules and policies when faced with residential problems and be willing to work as a supportive shelter team member.
