This year the hurricane Jimena has lashed the city of Guaymas leaving an important level of rain. 2009 is the year when it rained the most (in the last 50 years) and this caused an important damage to the population of Guaymas and to the city. The hurricane affected people of all backgrounds, leaving a lot of people in the middle of nowhere since they lost everything they had. Everything was affected, public buildings, leisure areas, houses, schools, there was no place that was not affected.
This international volunteer project is organized in order to help in the reconstruction of the city of Guaymas with the support of motivated volunteers. There are many things to be done since there were several areas seriously affected. We need help to clean beaches, to rebuild sportive spaces, to clean up parks and community spaces, to fix roads, to help in rural communities by giving health workshops.
After the hurricane, the children affected don’t have a place to continue their studies, they lost everything they had for their education: material, furniture, the roof collapsed and the walls were damaged because of the water and humidity. For that reason, at this first stage, the goal of the project is renovating and reconstructing two schools damaged by the Jimena Hurricane, so the children affected can return to their educative activities as soon as possible and in a clean and healthy environment, appropriate for their development and with the support of the international volunteers. This project will benefit 25 families for the first school and 180 families for the second school.
Volunteers will help with the reconstruction of the two schools affected. They will help with reconstruction activities such as painting walls, reforestation, and cleaning the schools. They will contribute to renovate these structures through scratching and painting walls, and will also do some artistic work such as painting murals on the walls of the schools with the help of local volunteers with landscapes and thematic appropriate for the children. The volunteers will also help planting trees and reforesting the affected area, making and putting signals and signs.
Age range: 18 and over
Location: Morelia is a beautiful historic city, and capital of the state of Michoacán. Founded almost 500 years ago, the city has a wonderful central zone with buildings dating back to the time of the Spanish conquest as well as all the more modern attributes (shops, bars, cafés, etc). The city's population is over 1 million and the climate is moderately warm, with daytime temperatures ranging from 20-35º C. Morelia is well connected to a variety of great places to visit, such as Pátzcuaro, and the ancient Purépecha capital Tzintzunzan.

For more details visit: www.cadip.org/volunteer-in-mexico.htm or give us a call: 617-502-0400 (US); 604-628-7400 (Canada)

For volunteer opportunities in other countries click here: www.cadip.org

6 hours a month ~ that's all it takes to be a RISE mentor. We have lots of terrific boys and girls on the waiting list. Find out how you can get involved and start making a difference in the life of a child....

RISE (Rhode Islanders Sponsoring Education) is a non-profit organization that provides scholarships and mentoring services to children of incarcerated parents -- great kids who can use another positive adult role model in their lives.

RISE seeks volunteers to work 1:1 with children ages 7 - 14. Mentors spend up to 6 hours each month engaged in community-based activities with their mentee. RISE hosts monthly activities for match pairs, including ice skating; barbecues; museum trips; health & wellness programs; athletic and cultural event tickets.

Interested candidates must complete an interview and screening process that includes reference and criminal background checks. All mentors complete a comprehensive initial training session. A 1-year commitment is required. Mentors should also have their own insured transportation.

Mentoring truly has a positive impact on the life of a child. Research demonstrates that mentored children have higher grades, better attendance records, and higher self-esteem than their peers.

Mentoring with RISE is lots of fun and is a good way to cultivate a young person's existing interests while introducing him/her to new people and places. Help make a difference and learn more about mentoring with RISE. Please email (reply to this message) or call Liza at 401-421-2010 for an information packet/application.

Brown University is conducting a research study to promote healthy family communication and see whether advice for families of teens who are experimenting with alcohol is useful. If you are eligible, all families will first complete questionnaires and interviews about teen substance use, teen behavior and family life. Families will then take part in one of two family counseling programs.

Parents and teens will be asked to return for 3 more visits over the course of a year.

Because one teenager's behavior can affect their teenage brother or sister, this program is designed for families with more then one teen in the family!

- Parents may receive up to $320 and teens may receive up to $200 as compensation for your participation in the study!
- Families will work with a trained counselor and receive a thorough assessment and discussion of teen issues!
- It's No Cost to you
- It's PRIVATE...all the information you and your teen provide is completely confidential!
- It's CONVENIENT...we can make every appointment as convenient as possible!
- It's FLEXIBLE...we can provide free transportation if necessary!

NOTE: This study DOES NOT include treatment for alcoholism.

This research study is sponsored by Brown University and the National Institute of Health (NIH).

Do you like working with kids? Do you feel as though you have something positive to contribute? Then please continue to read --

At this time, we are looking for committed ladies and gentlemen to pledge SIGMA THETA RHO FRATERNITY and be part of a newly developing service organization whose mission is to inspire and encourage adults to become more active in their communities by performing community service.

We have been recruiting all summer and due to popular demand, our recruitment deadline has been extended to November 5th at 10:00pm. Membership is open to males and females ages 11 to adult! This is a great opportunity for families to become involved and is also great for students looking to make a difference.

SIGMA (STR) is a New York City based organization that has members in various states throughout the country. We have members in: New York, New Jersey, Georgia, Hawaii, Iowa, Missouri, Mississippi, Pennsylvania and are looking to attract at least one person from every state so that we can start laying the foundation for a movement that is sure to become a national voice in community service. In order to become a member, you must first become a Pledge. Pledges must earn 116 points by May 1, 2010 in order to be crossed over into membership. Pledges earn points by doing community service, answering email, responding to posts on bulletin boards and attending events.

Pledges who are not in New York City will have to participate via "The Honor System", which means that they do their own community service projects. We also ask our non-NYC pledges to serve as Distance Peer Mentors to our youth. All pledges will be involved in helping us promote and grow Sigma and will also assist us in planning events, traditions and protocol as our organization continues to grow.

At the end of May, everyone is invited to New York City (at their own expense) to attend our Initiation Ceremony where they will receive their pin and membership certificates. Those who cannot make it, will receive theirs by mail.

If you are interested in pledging, please send an email with YOUR NAME - PLEDGE 2010. Please tell us about yourself and why this opportunity appeals to you. We generally answer within minutes, but definitely within 24 hours. We trust that you will be pleasantly surprised!

If so, you might be interested in the Family Genetics Study of Trichotillomania and Chronic Hair Pulling.

Researchers at Massachusetts General Hospital are conducting a research study to learn more about the influence of family factors in the development and maintenance of Trichotillomania and chronic hair pulling. You may be eligible if you are between 13-65 years of age and frequently pull out your hair.

We are enrolling individuals 13-65 years of age who have been diagnosed with Trichotillomania, or have chronic hair pulling, and their first-degree relatives (parents, children, and siblings). Family members do not need to have a history of hair pulling in order to take part.
Participation consists of a one-time visit divided into 3 parts:
-	An interview
-	Self-report questionnaires (filled out prior to your visit)
-	DNA (blood or saliva) sample to be collected upon your visit

Hoarding (USA)

Discovery Studios, the internal production company for all of the Discovery-owned channels, is producing a series of hour-long documentary style shows about hoarding, which will air on TLC. We are currently recruiting people who would like to participate.

A potential storyline could revolve around a situation where one family member is a hoarder and the rest of the family is having trouble coping. Or, it could be a family where multiple members are hoarders. In the most extreme cases, there may be a situation where the hoarder has been given an ultimatum to stop hoarding or else be evicted, cut off financially or divorced. Depending on the situation, we may be able to assist with finding a therapist or clean-up crew that can help guide the hoarder down a healthier road.

In the course of the show, we want our viewers to understand why people hoard things, what steps can be taken to deal with a serious hoarding situation and how shining a light on this common problem can lead to positive change for the people involved. Many times people know they have a problem but are often so overwhelmed they don’t know where to begin. We understand the very personal and sometimes embarrassing nature of this issue and guarantee that we will treat all characters involved in our program with respect.

If you or someone you know is interested in discussing the project further with the producers, please contact amy_dickson@discovery.com or 240-662-4471.

My name is Veronica Ciambra. I live in Newport and am the International Exchange Coordinator (IEC) who works with and supports the EF Foundation program in Rhode Island.

EF Foundation is a non-profit foreign exchange organization designated by the U.S. Department of State. On the basis of materials submitted and reviewed, the Council on Standards for International Educational Travel (CSIET) grants full listing to EF Foundation in the 2009-2010 Advisory List. Our program is committed to the concept of exploring the "Global Classroom," bringing international exchange students between the ages of 15 and 18 to the United States on a J-1 Exchange Visitor visa for a 6 month or one year academic and home-stay experience. EF Foundation was established in 1979 and is one of the largest and most experienced foreign exchange organizations nationwide.

EF Foundation is headquartered in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and is comprised of an international network of staff members, local coordinators, volunteer host families, and schools. During their year abroad, EF Foundation exchange students live with an American host family, attend high school, and are supervised by an IEC.

It’s a great program and will enrich you life, your community and your school. My son participated as an exchange student to Chile and had a great and lasting experience.

To apply to host an international exchange student, if you have any questions or would like more information, please contact me directly by email (vciambra@gmail.com).

Mentor a Child with an Incarcerated Parent (Rhode Island)

6 hours a month ~ that's all it takes to be a RISE mentor.

RISE (Rhode Islanders Sponsoring Education) is a non-profit organization that provides scholarships and mentoring services to children of incarcerated parents -- great kids who can use another positive adult tole model in their lives.

RISE seeks volunteers to work 1:1 with children ages 7 - 14. Mentors spend up to 6 hours each month engaged in community-based activities with their mentee. RISE hosts monthly activities for match pairs, including sailing; ice skating; barbecues; health & wellness programs; athletic and cultural event tickets.

We have many terrific boys and girls on the waiting list. Find out how you can get involved and start making a difference today!

Hi again! This is the photography student from RISD posting again to thank everyone for helping me out!

So far I have a good range of age groups who are willing to participate. Responses have mostly been from people who are in their late teens to late 20's. This is wonderful but I'm going to start needing people who are a bit older to pose as my aunts/uncles/step parents etc. and younger people to be my nieces/nephews/cousins and so on. Also I have already found people to fill positions as my grandparents. If you or someone you know would be interested in becoming a model in my school photography project and later appear in an art show on my campus please read my first add and email me if you would like to know more about it! Here's the link to my first post (or you can view it in yesterdays add section.)

Thank you so much again to everyone and I hope to hear from more people soon!
The picture below is not mine but is of a family from 1889!

Hello! I’m currently a graduate student at the University of Rochester working on my dissertation in psychology. In an attempt to get a sample of participants from across the US, I’m seeking volunteers via Craigslist who are currently in a romantic relationship (however you define this) to participate in an online survey (see link below). The survey should take about 15 minutes to complete and you will be asked questions about yourself, your relationship, and how you might react to a hypothetical situation with your romantic partner. All participants will be entered into a lottery for a chance to win one of two $25 gift cards to www.amazon.com (you will be asked to provide your email address in order to be entered into the lottery).

All responses will be confidential and email addresses will not be stored with the data. This study has been approved by the Research Subject Review Board at the University of Rochester. If you have any questions, my contact information is on the first page of the survey or you may send me an email via Craigslist.

Thanks in advance for your help! Here is the link to the survey:

Hello! I am a senior majoring in photography at RISD and I am in search of awesome people to be models in my work. My project is about constructing a fictional family that I pretend to be my own. I’m looking for complete strangers, students, teachers or someone you know, all nationalities, shapes, sizes and ages! Right now I have 3 sets of elderly couples who have agreed to be my grandparents so now I’m looking for people to pose as my aunts, uncles, step mothers, step fathers, sisters, brothers, nieces, twins, really anything!

At the end of the project, the photographs taken will be hung in a gallery space and will be open to the public where you can meet and talk with the other models while celebrating with food and drinks! I will also give you the photographs that you have helped me make possible. This is a great opportunity for anyone who is interested in being involved with the arts and perhaps forming a friendly bond with myself and/or the other participants. If anyone is excited about this project and would like to become apart of it please shoot me an email and I can give you all of the details. Thanks for reading and I hope to hear from you soon!

The image posted below is the actual gallery space where the photographs will be shown in the spring. Thanks again!

I do a huge haunted house, at my home at 385 Valley Rd., in Middletown. We are open every Sun., Wed., Fri., also, Halloween from 6:30 - 9:00 ,
This is a free haunted house, but we do accept donations to offset the huge cost,, BUT,, we do need volunteers to help with this event. Try it out,, you will love it. It is so fun to see people get so afraid, they are screaming, and cowering in corners. If you like halloween, or scareing people, please help us out. We could really need men or tall boys mostly. New a Jason, a Micheal Myers, Texas Chain Saw, Killer Klowns, Maybe a freddy Krueger, but that would have to be a thiner person. Visit our Website at: www.FrightNightProductions.com

Do you have a talent you've always wanted to share? Have you ever wanted to try teaching? Here's your chance! Citizen Schools aims to change the way that kids see education by bringing in a second shift of after school professionals to expose kids to new skills and ideas they have never explored before!

Citizen Schools is at the Keith Middle School in New Bedford and we are looking for a few new "apprenticeships" for our spring session. Apprenticeships are 10 week mini-classes on a subject of your choice that end with a big ending presentation that allows kids to teach back what they've learned to their community members. Apprenticeships runs from 4pm to 5:30pm on either Monday or Thursday from the end of February until the end of May.

Do something you enjoy and change a kids life; this is your chance!

Contact Rita at the e-mail above for more information, and check out www.citizenschools.org to learn more about us!
