Antique 18th century HEAVY 30lb each Iron Cannonball Book Ends Militaria

Antique HEAVY 30lb each Iron Cannonball Book Ends

Set of cannon ball book ends; each book end weighs 30 lbs. The cannon balls themselves likely weigh about 24lbs.

Likely 18th century but could be Civil War - Confederate...or could be earlier, even American Revolution era. Someone with more expertise might be able to pinpoint the exact era.

Each cannon ball has a seam and fuse hole as shown in pics. Cannon balls from the revolutionary period and earlier had seams; however Confederate cannonballs also had seams. The technology to cast one-piece cannonballs arrived in the early 19th century, but before that they cast two halves and put them together.

They are likely 24 lb siege and garrison artillery balls, could be 24 pounder from the Civil War- Confederate

The balls themselves are 5.25 inch diameter.

Cannonball "holder" measures 6" high by 4".
