This is a 14.76’ Finn Olympic class sailboat. It has been sitting a while, so it is not “race ready” today. It comes with the correct, original equipment 11’ rectangular Sitka spruce boom fit to it’s original 22’ tapered round Sitka spruce freestanding mast, a modern, near new Ulmer Kolius mylar sail, the alloy swing keel and the original rudder; nothing else.
Also included is an extra (not pictured), reduced height, original spruce Finn mast that needs some attention.
It could use a power washing, waxing, gunwale rubber, sheets, and a halyard. There are no cracks or abrasions in the hull bottom.
MATERIALS : the rig is a Sitka spruce mast, tapering from a 2 1/2” circle at the base, widening to 3 1/2” as it goes through the deck and gradually tapering down to a mere 1 1/2” swell at the top, and is 22’ long from the base.
Finn boats came out in 1949 with wooden hulls, became an Olympic class in 1952 and have been made by several manufacturers with ongoing changes to more modern materials as time progressed. As such, this Finn has a fiberglass hull.
The free-standing wooden rig needs to be adequately stowed and covered between uses or it will eventually suffer from exposure.
So if you have the situation and ability to store this Finn’s wood rig between uses, you could be using a very low dollar Olympic class cat boat and maybe find a matching aluminum mast/boom over time, if you even care to do so.
REGISTRATION : Per state of R.I. boating regulations, since this boat is in a recognized race class and does not have a motor, it does NOT need a registration or title. As a 14’ boat, it would probably not raise much concern with the authorities anyway because unpowered boats under 14’ are exempt from registration. I do not have a previous registration so it will be sold with a bill of sale only. Our U.S. constitution, in the full faith and credit clause, says that the several states shall honor the regulations of each other state, so if you are looking at this from out of the state of R.I., understand that the R.I. laws, being at the point of sale, will apply. (That’s why you can drive your car in another state with your own state’s license and registration.)
TRAILER : The pictured galvanized trailer is NOT included but is available for another $300 and will be sold as a home built on a bill of sale. It has only been fresh water used, so is not rusty and has brand new tires. The trailer is not available separately from the Finn.
I can deliver for a small fee within 25 miles of my address, once the Finn is fully paid for. Thank you.
