Ohana is one of the nicest examples of a 34’ flybridge downeaster. The hull was built by the legendary craftsmen at Webbers Cove, in Blue Hill, who were pioneers in the use of fiberglass in boatbuilding for the US Navy from WW II through the Vietnam era. This period was followed by building the Naval Utility Vessel in 34 and 40’ versions that then became civilian available.
The hull was delivered in 1969 to Roger Morse at Morse Boatbuilding in Thomaston, now Lyman-Morse for completion in 1970. It was delivered in June 1970 as Myles Away and has been loved and cared for since.
In 2004 she became Ohana and has been a perfect cruiser for our family of four. Twenty years of use from Maine to NC. has proven why this downeast hull form is safe and sturdy. The kids have moved on and due to a lifestyle change we will not be able to fulfill our wishes of doing the loop. She is ready for the next adventure.
Over the years the boat has been constantly upgraded which recently included Zipwakes. This trim and stability system is a game changer and has made the ride more enjoyable. Other changes include solar system, replacing the motor with a quiet Yanmar diesel that sips fuel and is easy to maintain. These upgrades included optimizing the boat for use by a couple for extended exploration and cruising. This size is perfect for sneaking into places normally inaccessible due to size and depth, especially on the ICW. Also having the prop protected in a keel is comforting knowing it is guarded from damage.
The boat is in the water and ready for sea trial.
