The United States Army Air Forces (USAAF) Eighth Air Force was a key component in World War II, primarily responsible for strategic bombing campaigns against Germany from bases in England. It became the largest air armada in the world, significantly contributing to the Allied victory by destroying enemy infrastructure and achieving air supremacy.

"Per ardua ad astra" is a Latin phrase meaning "through adversity to the stars" or "through struggle to the stars" that is the official motto of the Royal Air Force and other Commonwealth air forces such as the Royal Australian Air Force and Royal New Zealand Air Force.

The Fallschirmjäger (Parachute Hunter) were the airborne forces branch of the Luftwaffe before and during World War II. They were the first paratroopers to be committed in large-scale airborne operations.
