Castle Hill Inn - a Relais & Chateaux hotel in RI - includes 40 acres, 33 guest rooms, two restaurants and a banquet facility. Each year, the Forbes Four Star property seeks enthusiastic service-oriented candidates to join the award-winning team.
The Lawn Restaurant at Castle Hill seeks qualified candidates to join for the upcoming season. This team executes breakfast service for our overnight guests, as well as all-day dining for both Inn guests and the public. Lunch is served indoors year-round, with the outdoor space opening in May through October. The Lawn includes the Terrace Bar and the Adirondack Chairs, providing a wide range of experiences for our guests. The menu is ala carte with traditional New England seafood dishes ranging from clam chowder and lobster rolls all the way up to full composed entrees. This high-volume restaurant provides a luxury experience for guests travelling from all over, looking for a memorable al fresco dining experience. While the bulk of our business is focused between May and October, qualified candidates can secure year-round employment as well.
This is a physically demanding restaurant with a large landscape, fluctuating weather, and potentially long shifts. The restaurant is open seven days each week, with dinner service extending to evening hours as the weather and daylight allow. High energy, positive attitude, and teamwork are crucial to success. Hired staff may be required to work in other departments or positions as business volume and needs arise.
Server candidates should have at least two years of restaurant experience, with luxury table service history preferred. Must have a strong base of food and beverage knowledge to serve well-travelled guests. This position is paid below minimum wage, with daily tips distributed in cash. Servers work as a team with their bussers, food runners, and support staff to provide warm and gracious service, and share with those team members in their success. Shift start times range from 9:30am to 3:00pm, and are usually between 8 and 10 hours in length. Hired servers can expect between 3-5 days of training before working in their own section. Section size, location, and shift selection depend on business needs, weather, and quality of service. Working breakfast shifts may be required as well. Alcohol safety certification is required.
Bussers provide support to the service team and are the backbone of the restaurant running efficiently throughout the day. This includes providing bread and water service to each guest, clearing and re-setting tables, polishing glass and silverware, and maintaining the cleanliness of the restaurant and work space. This is a great position for those with little restaurant experience to learn the ropes and be a part of a great team. Bussers are paid below minimum wage with daily tips distributed from their server counterparts. Shift start times range from 9:30am to 3:00pm, and are usually between 8 and 10 hours in length. Working breakfast shifts may be required as well. Hired bussers can expect between 2-4 days of training before working on their own and earning tip shares from the service team.
Lawn Food Runners:
Food runners are the link between the culinary team and the guests, ensuring that the right food is presented to the right guest as quickly as possible. Food running is a very physically demanding position and requires a fast work pace and ability to communicate quickly and effectively. Our runners present the food to each guest and must be comfortable explaining the dishes and answering questions. Runners are paid below minimum wage with daily tips distributed from their server counterparts. Shift start times range from 9:30am to 3:00pm, and are usually between 8 and 10 hours in length. Hired runners can expect between 2-4 days of training before working on their own and earning tip shares from the service team.
Host/Hostess (Lawn and The Dining Room):
Our hosts & hostesses are the first and last employees each guest see at the restaurant. Candidates should have an outgoing personality, professional demeanor, and ability to multitask effectively. This position requires effective communication both in person and on the phone, while managing the computer software and maintaining a professional appearance to the entry of the restaurant simultaneously. Candidates must be able to work well with minimal supervision, be excellent at problem solving and creating a warm & welcoming environment. Previous restaurant, front desk, or retail experience is required. This position is paid an hourly rate depending on experience. Shift start times range from 8:00am to 4:00pm, and are usually between 5 and 7 hours in length.
