Black is the most desirable color for outdoor use
Terra cotta and gray blend into landscapes well
these often can reach a 30 year lifespan.....no other color can last this long because the less dark pigments lessens lifespan
Clear being the least desirable and cracking in 25 months
the added benefit is they have the least UV degradation of any plastic
and because they block light you do not get bacterial and algae growth nor algae bloom in the form of green pond scum rings inside: the water stays clean and clear
They look less industrial than blue barrels as well.
Also very useful as a rolling composter.
Swing by harbor freight and buy the $10 movers caster dolly...flip it upside down and lay barrel on top....you now have a rolling composter. Best part of all is this design does not lose compost tea...the exceptional liquid fertilizer derived from compost. Unscrew lid to load...tip barrel to pour out compost tea.
Elevate composter on 2 cinder blocks.
