This is undoubtedly my nicest guitar. Unfortunately in April I am going on the road with limited space, and this instrument shouldn't be left in storage. So it is time to say goodbye.
I purchased this guitar new in 2021 for $6000 and it has never left my apartment except when I moved. Always handled with surgical care, in a case with humidifier, etc etc. It was always a bit of a vanity purchase, but I played it enough to break in the top a little. Otherwise it is like new. Essentially this is a very nice and Martin-y take on a J-185. I've heard they are hard to sell, it is an odd and pricey thing. But for the right player I think it is a perfect instrument.
- If you are a flatpicker then this guitar is your friend. It is impossible for mortal hands to overdrive and every note sings with rich harmonics. For a few years I used this to play single-string jazz solos over recordings of myself comping, I play very hard and my archtop struggles. It probably sounds great in bluegrass.
- I am not much of a strummer but yes, classic open chords sound great on this. It is a booming guitar with great projection; some singers might struggle to be heard. May be too large for some people (I hold it like a classical guitar but with my left foot barely elevated).
- Fingerpickers will need to work extra hard to get the top singing. I gravitated away from this guitar as I moved from plectrum -> fingerstyle, preferring a smaller instrument. It is not quite as versatile as a proper dreadnaught.
- There is a "monkey's paw" element to having such large amounts of beautiful rosewood: music with dissonant harmonies don't work as well as they do on a smaller guitar, it is almost like a harp. However it is a perfect guitar for DADGAD droning / etc. Michael Hedges would have liked it.
So this instrument needs a serious, talented,
somewhat deep-pocketed player to give it a good musical home. I wish I could keep it but I am not the kind of musician that can hire a guitar attendant - I waste too much money on guitars :)

$5500, cash only. Sorry, Venmo/etc won't work. It is a little rich for a used instrument, and I am open to respectful offers. But
a) I am not desperate to sell and the guitar is a rare piece in great condition. I won't be lowballed. I would rather give it to a friend.
b) Builders have jacked up the prices on Indian rosewood due to tariffs, it will be increasingly hard to find wood this nice for this cheap.
I am in Pawtucket. Happy to send along proof of identity / residence / etc - it is a lot of money and a lot of guitar to trust with an online stranger. Please reach out via text or email (no phone calls) if you have any questions.
