This vintage effect from the 1970's is the same exact circuitry as the Maestro Filter Sample and Hold, licensed and put out under the Oberheim name. It is an awesome effect, used extensively and made famous by Frank Zappa- it's all over his early recordings. You can actually get different effects with it- in envelope mode it is a sort of envelope follower/wah wah, similar to what the Mutron lll sounds like. In Sample and Hold mode when you play and hold one note it generate multiple somewhat random notes heard as over tones on top of the held note. This is why some of the stuff Zappa did is literally impossible to play - you can't finger the overtones on the neck of a guitar! A bit hard to describe and to imagine until you hear it! Although mostly used by guitarists, you can play any instrument through this and come up with some truly wild, original sounds.
Electronically everything works 100% and cosmetically it is in very good condition for it's age... it has some surface scratches ,. but all graphics are clearly legible, as you can see from the photos.
