What makes the high-end restorations are the details, and this vanity would have been mounted in the rear seat of only the most luxurious of the 1920s and 1930s. Made of German silver with velvet sides and face, it comes with instruments of the era: two Elgin lipstick cases and an Elgin compact mirror. The Elgin National Watch Company was founded in 1864 in Elgin, Illinois, and was known for its high-quality timepieces and accessories. Its factory was once the largest watch-making complex in the world until they shifted their focus to defense production during World War II. After the war, the company faced increased competition from foreign manufacturers and struggled to adapt, eventually shutting its doors in 1965. The Elgin brand remains popular among collectors as a significant part of American history.
