1924-1926 Studebaker Turning Wheel Cloisonne Radiator Badge Emblem in Blue
In 1852, Henry & Clement Studebaker opened a blacksmith shop, building quality carriages in South Bend, Indiana. They became the world's largest wagon manufacturer, supplying the U.S. Army with wagons during the Civil War. In 1902, they transitioned to automobiles, first producing an electric car, and then in 1904 a gasoline-powered vehicle. By 1912, they were producing fully Studebaker-made gasoline cars and ended wagon production by 1920. They became a leading independent manufacturer, but faced severe financial issues during the Great Depression and ended up in receivership. They survived and supplied the U.S. military with crucial trucks during WWII, creating groundbreaking styling designs post-war. In 1954, a merger with Packard failed despite new designs, and by 1966, global production ceased.
The emblems, and many others, were manufactured by the D. L. Auld Company in Columbus, Ohio. Founded in 1870 by Demas L. Auld, the company was originally known for jewelry, but is now most known as a major supplier of high-quality decorative automotive emblems and trim for vintage vehicles such as Cadillac, Packard, Buick, Chrysler, Studebaker, Pierce-Arrow, Dodge Brothers, Moon, Chandler, Jewett, Franklin, and Elkhart, many of which you can find at DSClassics.
