We used this lock to secure our laptop to the table or cabinet so we could step away for a short while. Used it when traveling, or working at the library. All seemed to work ok. It gave a little extra security that someone can't easily just walk away with our laptop, it would be a little struggle to disconnect & would draw some attention. It's not perfect for all circumstances but it's good so you don't need to fold up everything to take a short nearby break from tying. You must have a hole in laptop/notebook case to insert the T-bar on edge of lock. You can also use it to lock down other items as long as you have a strong hole for the lock.
